Coach Cal Encourages Big Blue Fans to Help in Storm Relief Efforts
Monday, March 5, 2012

If there is one thing John Calipari knows about the Big Blue Nation, it’s the fan base’s passion. Now he’s hoping the Kentucky fan base will use that passion to assist those affected by this week’s storms.

Coach Cal is encouraging people to join in the Kentucky Cares Campaign, which is being headed by the Bluegrass Chapter of the American Red Cross, in cooperation with Clear Channel Radio, WKYT, the Lexington Herald-‐Leader and Central Bank.

The American Red Cross is helping hundreds of people after a recent string of deadly storms swept through the Bluegrass area. Currently, the Red Cross has a shelter opened at Elliot County High School.

At this time, the easiest way to help those affected by the storms is to give a financial donation to the Kentucky Cares Campaign. There are four ways you can donate:

  • Text Redcross to 90999
  • Visit www.redcross.org and give to the Disaster Relief Fund
  • Drop a check off at any Central Bank location
  • Mail a check to 1450 Newton Pike, Lexington, KY 405011 with “Kentucky Cares” in the memo line

Calipari and his wife, Ellen, made a $10,000 donation on Sunday before the Kentucky basketball team left for Florida.
